Magical start to Lake Baikal Expedition

Serenaded by an orchestra of retracting and expanding ice, Dixie phoned from Lake Baikal with exciting news of a grand start.

The team completed 18 kilometers of progression under sunny skies and temperatures hovering around -25°C.

Their current position:

N 52 07 47

E 105 36 41

The unique characteristic of an expedition on a frozen lake has given each member a sense of otherworldly surroundings. During the day, as the ice warmed and expanded under the sun, the creaking and popping of the ice took time to acclimate in the ears of each participant. By evening, as the ice cooled and retracted in the increasing cold, the sounds morphed into reassuring music under the stars.

We wish Gino, Cécile and Marie-Elisabeth sweet dreams in their Siberian paradise.
